The Sydney Upton story
Sydney Upton was given two white feathers in Birkenhead, by two separate women, whilst unfit for military service. Captured at the Battle of Cambrai, he escaped twice from a prisoner of war camp before making a perilous journey home in November 1918.
Find out about this Cheshire man’s extraordinary First World War experiences through the documents and artefacts donated by his family and the white feathers he kept all his life.
